Grand Opening of LEGOLAND Florida Resort's Lego Movie World!!!

March 28, 2019

This week, we were invited to the media preview of LEGO Movie World at the LEGOLAND, Florida Resort!

The 80,000-square-foot area, which officially opened Wednesday in Winter Haven, transports guests into scenes from their favorite LEGO movies. This is the largest expansion in LEGOLAND Florida Resort history. The new area includes three rides, a taco stand, a play area with slides, a cute retail store, and even an indoor character meet-and-greet area.

The new area is bright with beautiful colors and tons of LEGO fun! When you first walk in, to the right is a LEGO character meet and greet. This is Benny, if you get the pleasure of meeting him, be sure to say the word "spaceship". He goes a little crazy.

To the left is a new ride called Unikitty's Disco Drop.

The colors pop out so you definitely won't miss this ride. Unikitty's Disco Drop is both kid and adult friendly as my 5 year old rode it with his 68 year old Papa and both had a great time.

The screen on top of the 30 feet ride is LED and the face of Unikitty changes as the ride drops. She goes from googly eyed happy, to unsure, to green and nauseous, to red and mad, and then happy again.

There is even a play area (Benny's Spaceship) in the middle of LEGO Movie World where kids can climb and slide down either a small or larger slide. My 7 year old said "the yellow slide is... whoa and fast". My 5 year old said "the yellow one if fun and not scary, but the blue slide is for smaller kids".

A ride not to be missed is Masters of Flight. This ride is sure worth the wait... it encompasses the only 180-degree turn on a flying theater in the world! Masters of Flight allows guests to take a four-and-a-half minute ride on Emmet’s Triple Decker Couch. Guests ride in suspended couches/gondolas inside a dome while watching a 65-foot screen. The ride’s animation takes visitors through Cloud Cuckoo Land and splashes down on the waters of Pirate’s Cove. You will feel the ocean mist and even smell cotton candy and pine trees while soaring through THE LEGO® MOVIE universe.

Be prepared to store belongings, including bags, hats and flip flops/loose-fitting shoes in cubbies on the ground level near your gondola before it takes flight or else you might lose them.

  • Guests under 40” in height or under 3 years of age are not allowed on the ride
  • Guests between 40” to 52”, and 3 to 8 years of age, must be accompanied by a supervising companion age 14 years or older capable of ensuring the child’s safety and seated next to the child.
  • Guests 52” in height and above 8 years of age may ride unaccompanied

Yes that is a LEGO Raptor with laser guns...

Oh and did I mention that LEGOLAND has beer now? Oh... well... they do! With 2 boys... I always need beer at amusement parks. The beer is available at 3 different locations throughout the park and we were able to sample a couple during the preview. Yum!

The third new ride isn't really new, but it's been refurbished. Remember the old Chima boat ride? Well, Battle of Bricksburg has taken it's place.
Riders are challenged to stop Duplo aliens from invading and stealing Lego bricks by spraying water at targets from their boats. Some of the guns weren't working on our boat which was kind of boo and I hope they fix the issues soon. BUT beware because while you are riding on the boat, spectators are shooting land cannons back at you. Also note, if you hit a target, it makes you get even wetter. But... who notices on a super hot day. We could all use some cooling down to enjoy the rest of the park.

While my 5 year old and I were on the ride getting soaked, we met a Youtube family called The Chick's Life. They are super cool and just recently sold their house and are traveling the country in a 5th wheel. Check out their channel if you get a chance. You might even see us in the background getting wet on the boat while we were on the ride together. :)

Let's not forget about the new taco stand, Taco Tuesday Everyday! This quick-service restaurant declares it is Taco Tuesday Everyday!

They offer colorful tacos, pink tacos and blue tacos – so you definitely want to grab one of those when visiting!

The Tacos Everyday shop offers a number of other offerings. From smokey briskets to some sweet treats like the double-decker “Sofa-Pilla” bites. The dessert is a pastry with cinnamon sugar and a buttery honey drizzle. I'll definitely try those on my next visit, but I opted for the crab salad taco which really hit the spot. Yummo!

As a gift for the media preview, we all received this cute LEGO taco. Hey LEGO of my taco!!

We always enjoy our trips to LEGOLAND and we love staying at the LEGOLAND Beach Retreat when we do visit. There are so many fun rides, it's super kid friendly and so laid back. I'm not into crowds and the lines here are doable. No stress and the staff is amazing. I recommend this park to everyone and now even more with the new expansion of LEGO Movie World.

Heck.. we even ran into our all time favorite Youtuber's FV Family/FGTVee (I mean they are on our TV and Ipads 24/7... ok not when we sleep, but when we are awake). If you have visited the LEGOLAND Hotel, you will know what they mean by "Party in the Elevator". It's def a party with disco lights and all!

The new “LEGO Movie World” addition to the resort will deliver loads of awesomeness to your family's vacation or day trip.  LEGOLAND says the land is just one of several additions, and events coming in 2019.

The resort is also already looking to the future, with plans to open the “Pirate Island Hotel” in spring 2020.

We are so excited and just can't wait!!!
