A taste of the Old World in Berlin, Germany right here in Ruskin.

I received product to facilitate this review, however, all opinions are my own.

There aren't many cuisines that I won't try. I really love the different tastes and textures of all foods and it's my job as a parent to expand my children's tastes. Luckily, our community has many local restaurants that allow us to introduce new foods and cultures to our kids. Recently, I had the opportunity to meet the owners of Old Castle Restaurant in Sun City and take home a meal to my family.

Old Castle Restaurant is a family owned restaurant serving authentic German cuisine in a friendly old-world-style tavern.

They have amazing, authentic food, with a warm atmosphere. While waiting for our to go order, my youngest and I ordered the Giant Pretzel (baked to order, served with sweet German mustard and your choice of two dips) and it was great! So great, that I made sure to box up the leftovers to share with my husband and older son.

The ambiance is so quaint and cozy so it was easy to relax while waiting for our food. Old Castle Restaurant has a wonderful variety of beer and wine and would be the perfect spot for a date night or adult's night out.

But, if you can't get a night out, kids are welcome and they offer a kids menu which includes: Little Knights Schnitzel (small chicken or pork schnitzel, mashed potatoes, pork sauce and sweet carrots), Dragon's Bratwurst (1 pan fried nürnberger sausage with sweet carrots and either cheese spätzle or french fries), or Castle Cakes (2 small potato pancakes with homemade apple compote).

While we were there, we were able to get some quick pics of the items coming out of the kitchen. How delicious does the schnitzel look? You can tell it has a fantastic crunch to it. Schnitzel is a traditional German dish where meat is pounded out thin, breaded, and fried. The breading is very simple, but creates a wonderfully crunch shell around the meat.

We also got a beautiful pic of the Smorgasbord for Two which includes 2 slices of Sauerbraten, 2 slices of pork roast, Schnitzel strips, a Bratwurst, Bauernsausage, pan fried potatoes, spatzel, bread dumplings, sauerkraut, and red cabbage.

For our take home meal, we had the Smorgasbord for Two and it was delicious. The amount of different flavors was mind blowing. Our favorite was the red cabbage and I couldn't get enough of the Kartoffelsalat (german potato salad traditionally warm with bacon, onions, oil & vinegar). I may have eaten the whole container myself. Yum! The kids had the schntizel and really enjoyed it. Their portions our very generous and we had leftovers for the next day.

The food and atmosphere at Old Castle Restaurant is always welcoming and homey. Whether you want beer or schnitzel, I think you'll enjoy it! Check out their menu here
